It was also where the master magician Aleister Crowley, so-called 'Wickedest Man in the World', spent his final years, playing chess, injecting heroin and receiving an impressive cast of visitors, including Kenneth Grant, Gerald Gardner, Augustus John, James Laver and Richard Ellmann.
