Netherwood tells the story of a remarkable Hastings guesthouse that around the middle of the last century was home to visiting politicians, scientists, intellectuals and radicals.
It was also where the master magician Aleister Crowley, so-called 'Wickedest Man in the World', spent his final years, playing chess, injecting heroin and receiving an impressive cast of visitors, including Kenneth Grant, Gerald Gardner, Augustus John, James Laver and Richard Ellmann.
This new extended paperback edition of 500 has been thoroughly revised and updated and includes two additional articles about Aleister Crowley's youthful chalk climbing achievements at Beachy Head in East Sussex. Over 40 colour and black and white illustrations, some not in the previous two editions. Each 260-page copy also contains an envelope of enclosures: facsimile brochures from the Netherwood guesthouse, postcards and a bookmark.
